With support from the Foundation for Modern Music, FLAMART celebrates Mexico's bicentennial in our debut on the Miller stage with a musical homage titled "La Canción Mexicana". Known for its vivid and colorful culture, fascinating history, exotic cuisine, and unmistakable music, Mexico and its music have influenced and inspired many composers from around the world. With works from colonial times to our present era, FLAMART will present musical arrangements and feature music that is now beloved by many around the world and of course here in Texas. From classically composed pieces to timeless boleros, this is a program for the Latin music lover and the entire family. A formidable cast includes Nereida Garcia (soprano); Dominika Dancewicz (violin); Ruben Torres, Mary Carol Warwick and Paul Boyd (piano); Mariachi and Ballet Folklórico MECA; and Raúl Orlando Edwards (baritone). FLAMART is proud to be part of this major milestone in the history of our nearest neighbor nation.
The event is part of "Houston Celebrates Mexico 2010", a year of events marking the Bicentennial of Mexico's Independence and the Centennial of the Mexican Revolution, under the auspices of the Consulate General of Mexico.
This project is sponsored in part by the City of Houston through the Miller Theatre Advisory Board.
