Paul Boyd is Professor of Piano at College of the Mainland in the Houston area, where he also teaches Music Literature, Internet music courses, Composition, and Chamber Ensemble. Many of his present and former students enjoy successful careers in music teaching, performance, and composition. He served as President of the Houston Area Suzuki Piano Association from 1999-2001 and President of Houston Music Teachers Association 2006-2008. He was appointed Associate Artistic Director of the Foundation for Modern Music in August 2009.

Dr. Boyd studied piano with Anne Dean Turk, Carol Houston, Ruth Tomfohrde, and Abbey Simon; as well as composition with David Ashley White. He performs in solo, lecture, and chamber recitals, and has premiered works of his own as well as those of Mary Carol Warwick, John Kiefer, Christopher Theofanidis, and other composers. Recent faculty and guest appearances included performances of Corigliano’s Etude-Fantasy, Kiefer’s Tarantella, the entire Vaughan Williams Songs of Travel cycle, Gerald Finzi’s Let Us Garlands Bring, Chopin’s Op. 10 Etudes, and Ravel’s Miroirs.

This year’s schedule includes a debut with musicians of the Greenbriar Consortium, the art songs of Avner Dorman with baritone Raúl Edwards, music of Robert Avalon with FMM, and masterclasses in Austin and Houston coaching pianists in collaboration with a chamber orchestra. He is currently conducting interviews and research for an oral history of pianist Abbey Simon.
